New Grade for Fall 2023 is a national recognition for patient safety.

(La Palma, California – November 17, 2023) – La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care.

This is seventh time La Palma Intercommunity Hospital has earned an ‘A’ grade in patient safety from Leapfrog, the nation’s premier advocate of transparency in health care.

“Earning an ‘A’ grade means La Palma Intercommunity Hospital made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff, and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”

Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“We strive to create an environment conducive to compassionate care, and we take every measure to ensure that our patients receive the best possible treatment,” said Ayman Mousa, CEO at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital. “We are grateful to our devoted team of staff and physicians, whose unwavering dedication to delivering personalized care with remarkable results has earned us this recognition.”

La Palma Intercommunity Hospital has been recognized by Healthgrades with numerous accolades for clinical excellence, and has been a recipient of the Patient Safety Excellence Award™ for ten consecutive years (2014-2023). La Palma has also achieved the “Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement for Heart Failure with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll” by the American Heart Association, and has been recognized by the Lown Institute for exceptional patient and clinical results, receiving an ‘A’ grade on the 2023-24 Lown Institute Hospitals Index. Additionally, La Palma was named in the 2022 Fortune/Merative 100 Top Hospitals list.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.

As a member of Prime Healthcare, La Palma Hospital joins other Prime hospitals across the nation that have achieved award-winning accolades for clinical excellence.
